Drop-in centre visitors and volunteers seated around a table participating in a creative workshop.

Do you have a skill you can offer?

This could be anything from English teaching, gardening, CV writing, clothes mending, and hairdressing

We also need volunteers who can serve tea and coffee, help set up the hall for the day, and be friendly, welcoming faces.

You will need to undergo a basic Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

A day in the life of a volunteer

This is the day in Helen’s life as a volunteer.

Portrait of drop-in centre volunteer Helen.

“A typical weekly drop-in session starts, most importantly, with putting the kettle on!

Offering our guests hot drinks, fruit, and snacks to enjoy while they participate in the activities is an important part of setting the tone: they’re entering a place where they are warmly welcomed, where they can relax, learn, and be part of our community during their time here.

Mugs filled, there are different weekly activities to get stuck into, as well as access to legal support. Over the past few weeks, I’ve supported the team with English classes, T-shirt printing, drumming, cooking, and some very competitive Jenga games!

I’m not a legal expert, therapist, or counsellor, but I feel lucky to contribute to the centre by being a friendly face for our guests every week.”

Napier Drop-In Centre runs every Wednesday from 10:30am until 3pm.
